Sleepy Cinema Installation

This project started as an afterthought during the final stages of a new construction project when the client realized there was no aesthetically pleasing way to install a standard entertainment system in the master suite. Several challenges were present, but not impossible to overcome.

The home is extremely well decorated around a central theme of elegant simplicity. Preserving the pristine view of the lake and mountains when the system is not in use was critical. As the pictures show, the room is relatively void of useless clutter and furniture. Therefore, a hidden system was the only way to go.

Another challenge was the builder’s deadline. The home was in the last weeks of construction with the master suite already at 95% completion. Our key to the timeliness of this install was the accessibility above the trey ceiling. The trey was large enough to house the screen, the projector and the wiring and the high vaulted ceiling was the perfect location for the speakers. Cutting and re-working the trey around the screen took about six hours. The builder embraced our design and dedicated extra personnel resources, giving us the ability to complete the install in time for closing.

Although the trey ceiling helped us it also posed a problem. The client had a 100-inch screen in mind, but due to the distance between the walls and the limited throw distance of the projector, we were forced to use a larger 119 inch diagonal screen. In the end, the client was happy with the larger picture.

The rest of the equipment now needed a home. The master bathroom towel closet fit the bill perfectly, since there was ample extra space under the existing television, and the rear wall of the cabinet was adjacent to the master suite. The subwoofer was hidden under the bed giving an added effect of more bass.

The final touches included the easy-to-use touch screen remote and remote controlled blackout shades.
