Showcase Installation

Three key elements came into play on this project. Budget, Space limitations, and Time. This client wanted it all, but wanted to stay within preset spending limits, since the theater was a last minute addition to the house as it was being built. The room was also fairly small at only 14" wide by 18" long. Time was against us, since the room needed to be completed before the homeís closing date. We had approximately two months to design, build and finalize the room.

The room had no closets, and the walls were all shared with other rooms or hallways, so we decided to build two closets in the front for equipment. This allowed us to recess the screen and hide the sub, center and front speakers in custom made enclosures. A second seating tier was installed, since there was limited space for chairs, and our client's goal was to seat up to six.

The room acoustics were very live. We used sound dampening panels on three walls and built a tray ceiling to break up the echoes. The lighter borders were custom made on site. Extra insulation was installed in the ceiling to help prevent sound from penetrating to the dining room above.

The room was centered around a large screen projection system, THX sound, and Automated lighting. Ease of operation was provided by a color touch screen control system. Source components included DVD, VHS, and DBS. All source components were housed in the equipment closets on each side of the screen.

The theater includes reclining cinema chairs, movie posters, and glass-topped movie reel tables.
